I Talk to Myself…

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

My daughter overheard me one morning, it was kind of funny. I had whispered “Cozies! I’ll see you later…” to my PJs as I set them aside for the day. I didn’t think I said it out loud, let alone loudly enough for anyone else to hear! I’m starting to think maybe I talk to myself, to inanimate objects and to my pets a little too much. I’m not alone in this behavior though, am I?

(Denise sits back and hopes some fairly sane and sound minded people give reassurances that they do the same things…and that they also occasionally refer to themselves in the third person.)

In the meantime, here are some other instances where this type of self talk has occurred:

I talk to myself at work ALL THE TIME! My co-workers pretty much know to ignore me until I say their name and then they will know I have changed my audience from myself to them.

My husband automatically assumes I am always talking to myself; this can be problematic for me…and convenient for him!

I have been known to give myself pep talks. Yes, I do also answer myself most of the time.

I occasionally exclaim triumphantly to myself phrases such as “I’ve still got it!!” or “YES!!” with an awkward fist pump when I accomplish simple things such as dressing myself without falling over.

I recently said the phrase “Git it, girl!!” for my first and hopefully last only time. What prompted this celebration? I was encouraging myself to stop picking at a skin condition. YAY, ME!

I once gave my cat Millie some hugs and ear scratches and told her “You are so pretty and soft and sweet, no matter what Penny says about you!”.  Penny is our dog.

I do feel okay talking to myself, but sometimes wonder…how far is too far? It’s okay, I like talking to myself. I do feel it is a good way of venting, staying grounded, organizing thoughts and encouraging myself. (See what I did there? I pretty much talked to myself again while making myself feel okay about talking to myself!)

Do you talk to yourself, to your pets or to inanimate objects?  Drop a comment and tell me about it, I would love to hear that I am not alone!

Oh yes, I talk to myself all the time. Mostly in my head. Out loud, it’s usually to remind myself what I am doing. “Eat lunch first, then laundry and dishes”
