Dog destruction, downpours and bright moments amidst the ridiculousness…

What a week already! Yesterday was so crazy busy at work. I took a late lunch and went to Ollie’s to buy a ceramic flower pot because my dog Felix had just eaten another plastic pot. We found my flowers potless in the middle of the deck the night before. Upon further investigation, I found plastic shards strewn about the yard. We had gone outside to get the dogs inside because we heard a fox outside and didn’t know if it was in our yard. I didn’t have time for lunch so I bought the heartiest looking candy bar I could find at the checkout (pictured, delicious). When I went…

    Christmas Calamities

Christmas Eve for the Ash Fam is usually spent with Mimi at the home of Aunt Janet and Uncle Ed with lots of cousins. A lovely family tradition! This year, it would just be me, Chris, Connor and Rachel at home. Though it was not our normal tradition, I was excited to have quality time with my little family. Connor and Rachel were coming over and would be spending the night. We got takeout from Lemoncello. Due to Christmas Eve order volume, we had to pick the food up much earlier than we needed it. Connor had to work, so he and Rachel planned to come over after he was…

    Graduation Expedition

This blog is a few of months overdue! I, like so many others nowadays, have been busy treading water, feeling trapped in a bubble, like I’m caught in a dream, totally distracted by this surreal life we’re all living, all while living our lives. I even wrote this a while ago, just never went back for the finishing touches so I could post it. Now I’m ready! Without further ado, here is the graduation blog… For years, whenever anyone mentioned my kids graduating, I would say “Oh, my! I am going to be a puddle on the floor!”. I figured I would be so emotional seeing our babies, our twin…

    Zip it!!!

“The Swedish engineer who invented the zip fastener made a greater intellectual leap than many scientists do in a lifetime.” ~ Martin Rees Well, no wonder zippers have me stymied!!! A year ago I had a couple of zipper issues … ironically, I had a zipper issue today, too! I took my sewing kit to work to fix my pants where the seam had ripped by the zipper. Sewed it in the bathroom, then realized when I put the pants back on that I sewed too much together, half my zipper is sewed up tight, no zipping possible. 🙄 I tried! At least the pants do look better after my…

Turns out, I am the Hen…

Not that I am feeling depressed or full of emotion, but life in my garden this year seem to be mirroring my real life. Let me explain a bit and you will come to see what I mean by this. I have a long standing affinity to chicks and hens. Not the birds, although they can be cute. I am speaking of the succulent-like plants. We had a neighbor when I was growing up (5-8 years of age) who had plenty of chicks and hens on the side of her house right next to her driveway. She was a very sweet lady named Mrs. Thomas. She had curly gray hair,…

    Something Borrowed and Blue

Here’s a little rant about this shirt: I’m not sure what should make me most annoyed… 1) that my fashion forward son confiscated and wore my shirt yesterday without asking to borrow it. 2) that it more than likely looked better on him than on me. 3) that he wants to keep it and my husband and daughter are both encouraging me to give it to him (probably proof that number 2 is true). 4) that my husband had no recollection of me wearing the shirt and challenged me to try it on because he thought it wouldn’t fit me. 5) that I lowered myself to this level by trying…

Mom’s Advice: Follow Your Own Path!

I gave my two soon to be high school graduates some advice last night. It was to take some of the unsolicited advice they are now being given by family and friends with a grain of salt. The fact is, I did not anticipate that people would tell Connor and Rachel what they feel is the right path for their lives. I tend to be more positive than actual life sometimes so disappointment is inevitable, I guess!  Even before their senior year was derailed by the pandemic, Connor and Rachel were on a path that was different than what was previously envisioned for them. They worked pretty hard to get…

    Becoming ME…

I have not published anything on this blog for a bit. I’ve been busy. Not necessarily busy with physical activities that limit my time to write, but busy with thoughts, feelings and growing pains that have consumed my ability to focus on any one thing to write and share.  I know I’m not alone. This is an unprecedented time in which we live. A pandemic overlapped with civil unrest, all slathered in hate and racism. Even still, this is not all that has been consuming me. Perhaps it has helped me become more introspective. I have been feeling all kinds of feels for quite some time now, dating much further…

    Spring has sprung!

My Dad always used to recite a version of a poem that I often think of this time of year. Spring is sprung, the grass is riz I wonder where the flowers is? They say the bird is on the wing, but I always thought the wing was on the bird? ~Unknown~ Sweet memories of Dad and, of course, FLOWERS!!! I enjoy spring so much! I look forward to cleaning up my yard, seeing my spring flowers grow and bloom, making improvements in the landscape and planting flowers. It’s one of my favorite things! I have fond memories of going with my Mom every year to get our flowers. I…
