Graceful Calamities

Dog destruction, downpours and bright moments amidst the ridiculousness…

What a week already! Yesterday was so crazy busy at work. I took a late lunch and went to Ollie’s to buy a ceramic flower pot because my dog Felix had just eaten another plastic pot. We found my flowers potless in the middle of the deck the night before. Upon further investigation, I found plastic shards strewn about the yard. We had gone outside to get the dogs inside because we heard a fox outside and didn’t know if it was in our yard. I didn’t have time for lunch so I bought the heartiest looking candy bar I could find at the checkout (pictured, delicious). When I went to leave Ollie’s, it was a downpour. Of course I had my umbrella 🙄 … it was in the car in my purse. I walked, did not run, through the heavy rain to my car. Once inside the car, I took a moment to eat my newly purchased lunch.

Yummy, hearty lunch.

I drove back to work, withdrew some cash at the ATM on the way back in and got change at the teller window. I looked like I had just stepped out the shower fully dressed. The teller asked if I was available to call a customer. I felt like a big bad rebel when I told her I was not available yet. I had two more minutes and I was going to use the restroom. I walked past the customers waiting and did just exactly that. All that popped through my head as I walked away was that this must be what it feels like to take some time for “self-care” or “me time”. We take what we can get, am I right?

After work, I met a friend who treated me to a pre-birthday pedicure. What a treat! Of course, the technician picked on me mercilessly for being late and when the pedicure was done basically alluded to the fact that she could see up my skirt the whole time (I don’t think she could because I was VERY careful to keep it below my knees the whole time and my friend agreed). She made a point to heckle me some more when I went back to give her a very generous tip and told me not to be late the next time.

When I got home, I ended up spending some time chatting with another friend on Zoom and we booked our great weekend getaway to a cabin in the woods in the great state of West Virginia (halfway point for us). I then dipped my nails to match my toes and happily chilled with my husband the rest of the night.

My pedi and my dip mani…not a bad matchup!

Life is good in its weird curving road kind of way, isn’t it? I’m glad I can see the blessings and humor in the craziness of it all. I hope you do the same!

Our chosen cabin in the woods is a few steps up from this 😊
